In My Mailbox # 8: June 26 - July 2, 2011 Edition
In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren.
The purpose of the meme is to highlight books that you have received in your mailbox over the past week. For the books that I received that have not been released yet, I will give you the synopsis of the books and not just the names.
Now that the postal strike is over, I have started getting books again! I think I may have done a happy dance around my office when I got the first package.
Anyway, on to what I received this week...
1. Philippa Gregory - The Red Queen
2. Maggie Stiefvater - Linger
3. Maggie Stiefvater - Shiver
4. Jay Asher - Thirteen Reasons Why
5. Laurie Halse Anderson - Speak
6. Lauren DeStefano - Wither
7. Tabitha Suzuma - Forbidden
8. Veronica Roth - Divergent
*Notes* So none of these books are new releases, but they have been on my wishlist for sometime and I figured I should make a dent in it. I am kind of bummed that I didn't get Shiver and Linger in hardcover though. I am going to the release and signing here in Toronto later this month and the book is going to be in hardcover. I hate having a mis-matching series. Drives me nuts.
So that was all I got in terms of books, but I did get something else!
I got a new e-reader. I already had an Amazon Kindle and I picked up the Kobo touch e-reader this weekend. Not sure just yet if I am going to keep both or sell one and keep the other.
The kindle is good for PDF format that some of the galleys from NetGalley and the Simon and Schuester Galley Grab come in (provided they are formatted correctly). The Kobo touch is much better for ePub format than the kindle, but not so good for PDF's. They don't re-size so they pretty much force you to look at the text in the most minimal size and you think you are going to go blind doing it.
Since I am still figuring out all the ins and outs of the Kobo, I will do an in-depth comparison of the two in a couple of weeks. Knowing me, I am probably going to get a nook colour and an iPad next. All in favour of figuring out which one works better for what. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
So that is all I got in my mailbox this week. Hopefully next week brings more goodies! What did you get in your mailbox this week?

Congrats on the new e-reader. I didn't realize the Kindle would resize PDFs for you. My e-reader doesn't. That would make it so much easier to use.
My IMM
Thanks. It's not that the kindle does re-size the PDF's but it does show them at a decent size that can be read without straining your eyes. The Kobo doesn't and shows the page exactly as is. It makes for some pretty small text, but at least the format stays the same (which doesn't always happen on a kindle).
Amazing IMM! I swear I'm going to literally die if I see Divergent somewhere else before I get it! hahaha. I want to read it SO bad. It's next on my list of books to buy but I'm on a book buying ban until August haha.
My IMM is here:

I'm so jealous you got Divergent! And another ereader, though I do love my Nook! Nice mailbox this week :) Here's my IMM! Happy reading!

Awesome books you got there. I've won Linger a couple of weeks ago, but still haven't read it. Enjoy the books you got!
So glad I discovered your blog. It seems we have similar reading tastes.
You have a lot of my favorite reads this week - Divergent, Thirteen Reasons, Shiver/Linger, and Speak. I almost bought The Red Queen last night, but I decided to go with the Harry Potter Cookbook instead.
Really interested in what you have to say about Forbidden and The Red Queen. I've seen Forbidden on a lot of blogs the last couple of weeks.

Congrats on your ereader. Enjoy your books - Speak is so fantabulous.
Great books this week. Love Shiver and Linger. I really need to dig out my copy of Divergent and read it.
Happy reading.
Sally.

Nice mailbox for the week. I cannot wait until Forever comes out. I hope you enjoy Shiver and Linger. I am still in need of an eReader, I am reading all of my books on the computer which makes for uncomfortable reading. Happy Reading on your new Kobo

I really loved Divergent...read it in one go it was that good! Enjoy your books! :)
Oooh, you got some amazing books! I've read almost all of them and really liked them. I need to pick up a finished copy of Wither because it's gorgeous! The new Kobo is so cute! I thought about getting one for epubs (I have a Kindle, as well), but a friend gave me her old Nook when she got the new one, so I will just stick to that. Plus, that way I can share her library. Hah! I am impatiently waiting to see what Amazon is going to do with the next generation of the Kindle. I know they've been working on the touch e-ink for quite a while, so I'm not sure why they haven't released a new Kindle yet. I'm crossing my fingers that the wait will mean some awesome feature that will totally be worth it!
A great haul! Awesome stuff... I LOVED Divergent and The Wolves of Mercy Falls series :)

Hi Faye,
Thanks for stopping by. Book buying bans are never fun. I once tried that...it lasted all of three days!
Hi Jessica,
Thanks for stopping by.
I am jealous. I so want a Nook, but you can't get them here in Canada. I would need to make a special trip to the states. Maybe at the end of August I will head over :)
Hi Erica,
Thanks for stopping by.
Speak is amazing. I may just have to read it again!
Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for stopping by. I have been wanting forbidden for a while so when I saw it, I snapped it up.
